Happy New Year! Happy 2015!
Lately I haven't been posting, please accept my apologies.
Since it is a new year, I wanted to write a new year related post!
It is 1 am and I am drafting a blog post, this is what happens when you cant sleep!
I have a feeling this will be a lengthy post, get comfortable and grab yourself a cup of tea/coffee
I am so excited to be writing this for you guys!
The verse I felt that I should focus is from Romans 8:28
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." (NIV)
One thing I learnt from last year is that, things do not always go the way you intend it to!
As you grow up your original intentions can be diverted to different destinations.
And I realized that we are often not prepared for the sudden change of plan and it can feel like you are a little boat in the middle of the big blue ocean.
Let me give an example, for majority of my life my dream was to become a doctor to study medicine at university, I worked hard in school and did my work experiences and volunteering. Throughout that I had one thing in mind becoming a 'doctor' ....well I eventually sat my exams and later got my results, I was disappointed! All my life I have dreamed of being a Doctor and as I faced my results that dream was crumbling! I was upset and angry. And wondered why God had not got my back. Surely if God wanted me to study medicine I would have achieved the grades...that's how I saw it.
My plan for my future had all of a sudden changed. Giving me under 4 months to come up with a new degree choice and ideas of what I could with my future. It was frustrating and difficult! This decision could shape my tomorrow, for a 17 year old to plan out their life was a challenging thought it and it was scary.
I knew I could not do it on my own.
Psalm 55:22 "Our Lord, we belong to you.We tell you what worries us, and you won’t let us fall." (CEV)
1 Peter 3:7 "God cares for you, so turn all your worries over to him" (CEV)
I prayed and asked God to direct me and help me chooser the correct degree option. I recall waking up from a dream and having the words medical sciences and bio-medical sciences ringing in my head... I refused to have that as a career progression, (as I am not a fan of lab work). But the more research I did the more opportunities I saw other than lab work and the more I fell in love with the degree and its content. The more I believed, that this was what God has called me to do. I applied to my chosen institutions and and I received offers.
After all that I understood that God's intentions for me was not to study medicine but to do an alternate degree subject> Medical sciences/Bio-medical Sciences. And that in fact He had the best interest in my future.
I reflected upon what had occurred....
1.I realized we can place to much focus on what we want, and paid little attention to what God wants for our life.
I believe that if I had gotten the required grades for medicine I would have applied to study medicine, and eventually I would be doing something God did not intend me to do. Applying for medical sciences enables me to do something I'd enjoy but also have time for the gifts the Lord has blessed me with, if I studied medicine the time to utilize these gifts will be difficult to attain.
2. I realized that although it my feel like things are over (Just the way I felt when I found out my grades). At the end everything worked out in my favour, everything worked out for my good as I received offers from my chosen universities. Like wise with this in mind although things may not look pretty or go the way you planned, everything will work out in your favour. Remember God has your back.
I am aware that we may have all set our new years resolutions for 2015. Ask yourself, if the new years resolution is what you want or what God wants?
This year may not go according to Your plans but you must know that what ever happens is happening for a good reason and that God's plan is best, and as long as He calls us His children everything will works out in our favour.
In October 2014 I attended a youth residential organised by my church, it was amazing. A seminar in which I attended was called 'What's The Plan?' I'd like to share some of the verses that we where encouraged to declare over our lives, and I encourage that you do the same:
Joshua 1:9> ''Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”(NIV). So what ever 2015 throws at you, remember that God is with you. It may be a scary time but do not be afraid as He is with you through out. Ask God for his strength and face the situation with Him on your side.
Isaiah 41:10>"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."(NIV). This is very similar to Joshua 1:9. When 2015 is not going as intended avoid crumpling down, remember that God will supply you with strength to pass through the situation, furthermore He will be holding you hand in hand, He got you.
Isaiah 43:2>"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze." (NIV). This verse is amazing! This verse is so relatable, it shows that 2015 may be a very challenging year and this may be the case for some or most of us. But itnis the constant reminder that God will be with us, when the situation gets tough ,God's promise is that we will not be a victim to the issue and that we will not crumple because of the situation we are facing because He is with us.
The I am is with me and is watching over me --> "The Lord is with you and is watching over you" God will be with you through out 2015, remember you are not in this journey alone.
If things do not go as planned in 2015, remember to:
1. Look at the situation and smile ,for you know that everything will work out for your good.
2. Cast your burden and worries onto Him, ( ask for his help in prayer)
3. Acknowledged that you are not alone HE IS WITH YOU EVERY STEP. (even when it doesnt seem like it)
4. Talk to other people (friends, family, pastors, mentors) God places certain individuals in out lives to help us out, if these individuals have been through what you have been through and have come out of the situation you are in,not only does it give hope but it can also be a way to learn a few things of two.
5. Tell yourself... That "all things will work out for my good"
Wow! This was a long post, I hope you gained something from it.
Please drop me a comment and share.
Until Next Time (I hope it will be very soon)
